Bebe Wood

We were so happy when beautiful songbird/actor Bebe Wood had some time to meet up recently when she dashed in and out of NYC for a performance at the Soho House. We decided to go with her personal favorite style vibe for our shoot which is all things victorian, 20’s/30’s/40’s style and beauty. You’ll see in our photo diary below as she takes us to a dreamy magical place from days gone by. Bebe shares thoughts on her new music, the current SAG strike, makeup and her #1 bare beauty essential. Can’t wait to see and hear what this goddess has coming up next.

The Bare Magazine: It was so nice to meet you on your trip to NYC to perform at Soho House. Can you share a few highlights of the trip?

Bebe Wood: It was so lovely to meet you-- one of the highlights of my trip for sure! NYC is a favorite place of mine. Just popping in headphones and aimlessly walking around is always something I look forward to when coming to town. The show was so special and heartwarming. Super grateful to Play Series for having me. We performed some older stuff off my EP '21st Century Hippie' and tested out some new, unreleased stuff I've written more recently. The crowd were such wonderful listeners, and I had the best time. Lots of my friends are based in NYC, too, so going on adventures with them is a highlight as well!

Bare: Are you working on any new music? Seems a good time to focus on other passions besides acting as the SAG strike is in full swing. Please share some of your thoughts .....

BW: Always writing new music! I've got lots of tunes in the works that I can't wait to share with everyone. I've been playing instruments and making noise ever since I was a little girl. In a lot of ways it really came before anything else, so I'm looking forward to dedicating more of myself to composition. When it comes to the strike, I think it's important to remember that striking is always the last resort. The average working writer in Hollywood makes $69,000 a year, when we have some Hollywood CEO's making $74,000 a day. The actors and writers aren't to blame here. I'm so very proud of the WGA and my union, SAG-AFTRA, for fighting for what's right. If one wants to help out and show solidarity, consider donating to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation: https://members.sagfoundation.org/donate

Bare: What are some of your favorite ways to decompress and recharge? Describe a typical self-care day.

BW: My favorite way to decompress and recharge is truthfully by spending time alone. I'm super social but a total introvert. I always need that extra alone time. Listening to records is huge. There's something so restorative about having a physical sort of relationship with the music you love-- that's the magic of vinyl, I guess! Bike-riding, reading, taking walks, gardening, and cooking are all things I love to do to decompress too. If I'm feeling a bit more energetic / social, there's nothing better to me than going dancing for hours and hours. I grew up dancing salsa with my grandparents, so it feels warm and nostalgic. Plus, it rejuvenates and feeds the soul. Ha!

Bare: You usually do your own makeup for your music performances. Can you fill us in on some of your personal makeup tricks and tips? What beauty looks inspire you from past eras?

BW: I love doing my own makeup. It's such a lovely, meditative time to have with oneself before a show. Usually, I keep things simple. I don't wear foundation, and just like to use concealer for the spots that may need some evening-out. Glossier's Boy Brow is a MUST. I always curl the lashes, even if I'm not wearing mascara that day. I constantly come back to classic 1940s glam. I love to have a practically bare face, then do a couple swipes of my favorite red lipstick, Besame's Cherry Red-- then pat it out to soften the edges. I usually avoid lip liner. Another look I enjoy is the sort of vampiric 1990s plum lip that feels pretty slept in. I'd say the most important part of my makeup routine is the skincare I do beforehand. Moisturizer and sunscreen, always! Ultimately, I think makeup is all about finding and doing what makes us feel the most like us!

Bare: You have an affinity for antique and vintage clothing! Did you enjoy getting into the vibe for our shoot?

BW: I adored getting into the vibe of our shoot! The 1930s gown from Cure Thrift stole my heart completely. Antique and vintage pieces feel sentient almost. They've lived such a life! It's a special thing to wear one and add something to their story. I always wonder who wore them before.

Bare: Please list your top 5 bare beauty essentials.

BW: My number one bare beauty essential is SLEEP. My second is daily stretching. It keeps me sane. I have two favorite fragrances-- Royal Violets by Agustin Reyes (my Abuelita has literally been bathing me in it since birth), and Maison Margiela's 'REPLICA' Beach Walk. My friend Melissa Lekus does the best facials EVER. She's based in LA and uses all botanically derived products. I have very sensitive skin, and I leave feeling amazing every time. My last essential is Prose custom curl cream. A little goes a long way and it truly does wonders.
