Esther Povitsky

Comedian, actor/creator, Esther Povitsky , bared her belly and more on a recent visit to NYC where she did some press for her first full length feature film “Drugstore June” which she co-wrote and stars in. We are crushing on this talented, beautiful momma-to-be and so grateful she took some time to hang in our Brooklyn hood. Take a scroll down for our candid snaps and find out more about the film, her podcast Trash Tuesday, her YouTube channel, maternity style, pregnancy challenges, Dave King (loving father-to-be and fiancé), and her current Bare essentials. After meeting the little one’s parents…we def think that’s one lucky kiddo!

The Bare Magazine: When you jumped into making "Drugstore June," what message or experience for the viewer was most important for you to convey?

Esther Povitsky: That we are all flawed, it's okay to feel lost, heartbroken, confused about adulthood, have no hobbies or interests, and have absolutely no clear career goals.

Bare: I'm sure your first feature length film premiere during your final trimester of your first pregnancy has been a lot! How do you unwind/relax and recharge? Have you tried a good maternity massage?

EP: Just getting rest in bed with my dog at my side and staring lovingly into each other's eyes has been my biggest source of comfort.

Bare: We were glad to catch you in NYC. You did Fallon for the first time - how was that?

EP: Huge bucket list moment as a stand up comedian! It was such a wonderful experience, everyone on staff was so supportive and Jimmy's instant BFF energy is so true in person. I didn't think shooting a special while pregnant was right for me but this felt like the perfect in-between option for capturing some of the pregnancy, both the material, and my physical state.

Bare: When we met up in Brooklyn it seemed super clear that this baby’s daddy, your partner Dave King, is very excited. Does it give you great peace of mind to have his support when in motherhood doubt? (We read that you did this for the "old man.")

EP: Yes it does. Everyone is different but for me motherhood was never on my bucket list quite like The Tonight Show was. It was always an extremely large question filled with uncertainty. I can't quite flat out say I'm doing this for him because that's not entirely true, and he never put any pressure on me or asked for this, and I am personally excited for what lies ahead; however being able to make him a dad is a huge motivator for me especially when times have gotten very challenging for me during pregnancy.

Bare: What top three non-pregnant things do you miss most?

EP: Weed, eating a large bowl of pasta with a ton of tomato sauce, going on a 90 minute fast paced walk and just zoning out to great pop songs.

Bare: What are your current skin and hair challenges or bonuses? Have you been selective about using all natural products. What are some go-tos?

EP: Pregnancy has made my face and hair very dry. I have to say though I am enjoying finally not having to wash my hair every day. Normally it's extremely greasy within 12 hours of washing it and now I'm not kidding you I could go like 10 days without washing it and it looks amazing. I will definitely miss this dirty girl luxury that I've always dreamt of.

Bare: Have there been some maternity clothing brands that you've been loving? -- you've been creating a great look that still speaks your style.

EP: Thanks I've been really struggling with this transition. I really miss my perfect fitting baggy jeans that I wore pretty much every day in 2023. I got a little sick of living in sweatpants after my first trimester but I'm currently loving track pants/track shorts and a t- shirt - very adam sandler core. My stylist found these black pants from the brand Leset that are both comfortable and chic looking that I wore on Fallon and those will be a staple for any public appearances I have left.

Bare: Please list your top 5/6 Bare Essentials (they can be anything).
