Ginger Gonzaga

Ginger Gonzaga is a funny, beautiful talent on the rise. She’s currently stars as Nikki Ramos, alongside Tatiana Maslany in the Marvel hit She-Hulk: Attorney at Law streaming now on Disney Plus. We had a blast shooting in Korea Town LA recently. Ginger brought a few black satiny pieces and was super open to some fun makeup — she was in a blue eyeshadow phase. Her comfort in front of the camera and movements were heavenly to capture. Check out pics and her quotes below…on Nikki, style and yup those bare essentials!

I always like it to be sort of a mix of sexy Saint Laurent chic, and playful statement pieces, with a nice mix of one of a kind vintage.
I have a love/hate relationship with styling myself, but I always do it. I’m obsessed with fashion and I know what I like to wear and I sort of look at myself as a paper doll that I’m always dressing and I want the look to be a certain way. I’m constantly online, scouring the internet for cool pieces or some sort of rare vintage find as I glue looks together in my head and on little boards I make on my computer. I’ve always been that way and I wish I didn’t love it or care so much because the downside is it takes WAY too much of my time. There was a point where I started drawing my own designs and I trying to find ways to get them made, and I was like “this has to stop!” I want my event or press looks to to be something I’m creatively proud of, and so far it’s been easier if I do it myself, even though it’s an insane amount of work. I’m the same way with the characters I play on TV and it takes a lot of time, but it’s important to me and how I work. Eventually I’ll have to relinquish control because I’m not sure my compulsion is sustainable haha.
I love black! It’s tre chic and always looks edgy and sleek and pretty. I love that you can wear almost any kind of make up when you wear black. You can wear something super natural, or a bold lip or some crazy colorful 80’s glam eye. Black is so friendly in that way.
I wanted my character Nikki to be over the top feminine/girly as we are a show that shows what it’s like to be women in you’re 30’s living in the patriarchy. I wanted Nikki to be almost defiantly girly in how she looks, as sort of an FU to anyone who stereotypes women, or judges fashion or make up or the time some women spend on these things as they forget that to do so is also a personal form of art. I loved being in the hair and make up trailer on She Hulk because my team was so lovely. Rene Warnes did my hair and Stephen Weaver did my make up. They would let me bring in boards that I made for Nikki’s hair and make up and outfits, and most of my inspiration was always from the runway. Then, because they are such talented artists, they would make it happen and make it happen quickly. Stephen was always like, “we can do that!!!” and Rene would spend so much time finding cool hair ornaments and unique ways to put a cool spin on whatever I brought in from the runway. We did about 28 or 30 looks for the entire show. I love them both so much.
I loved working on She Hulk cause it’s so flashy and fun. I loved working with my friends. Tatiana Maslany and Rene Elise goldsbury and Josh Segarra are in my main orbit on the show and I love them so so much, they all make me laugh so much, and they are darling, special souls. Our writer Jessica is also one of the most generous and fun people and we all had a lot of fun together. I had never worked with director Anu Valia before either and I’m so grateful to have collected her into my life, and watch her work. I hope viewers enjoy themselves, and I hope the clever commentary in Jessica’s writing tickles everyone’s brains as they laugh at all the new superhumans and characters we introduce. We have a very diverse cast of so many talented actors, I think it’s a real treat.
I am a huge fan of clean products. I only use non toxic make-up. I started that several years ago due to an auto immune issue. I like to make sure that I have my own kit because it’s a lot to ask of someone to have all paraben free make up at a photoshoot or on the fly, so I always provide my giant case for make-up artists to use, just in case. I LOVE PYT glitter gels, I just got some of the Pacifica cream blushes that I like, Kosas liquid foundation is my go to, and I used a lot of the bright Ilia lipstick colors on She Hulk. Charlotte tilbury also has some paraben free products in their line, and I love their bright pink lipsticks!
It was exciting to get my own Nikki Funko doll and such a surprise! My first thought was, “I’m going to get one for my dogs!” but they’d probably eat it. It will be a fun treat to give to my agents and managers. Little cartoon Nikki can be staring at them while they work. They’ll love it! haha
