the bare magazine: what are you most excited for people to experience from season 2 of Daredevil?
Margarita Levieva: In my opinion, the show overall is a step up from season 1. It’s grittier, more vicious, and all the characters get deeper, much more complex storylines. There are definitely lots of wild surprises. I am especially excited about where Dr. Heather Glenn is headed. It's a complete 180 from season 1. Also, some beloved Marvel characters make an appearance and that’s very exciting.
bare: can you share some fond memories working with your costars and the location you filmed?
ML: We have a pretty tight knit crew and love being together on set. There are some sequences in this season, that took days to film and involve lots of the core characters and that always turns out to be the most fun.
bare: how are you similar to your character and what about her was most challenging to play?
ML: We’re similar in our need to be independent and free. Also, Heather is a psychiatrist and one of my majors at college was Psychology. I was always fascinated by humans, their psyche, and what drives behavior. Heather takes a pretty dark turn this year, and is going through a lot. It was challenging, at times, mapping out and tracking her mental state.

bare: you have another project coming soon that you're excited about... what details can you share?
ML: I have a fun part in the new Apple series Cape Fear, coming out June 6th, starring Amy Adams and Javier Bardem. Its based on the film. Felt special to know that my casting had to be approved by Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg, who are producers on the project!

bare: what were a few highlights from our shoot. your divine dancing was one highlight for us. and you wear a suit really well!
ML: Ha! Thank you. I can’t imagine a day when I won’t be dancing. It’s my first and forever love. Since bare magazine’s intention is to get to the core of their subjects, that’s the biggest way to get to my core. Put on a song, and you know ill be moving. I can’t hide when I dance, because its not about being good, but really feeling into the music. And I love wearing a suit. Probably an outfit I feel most comfortable in. But favorite part of our shoot was the collaboration. I love seeing people come together to collaborate, that moment when everyones talent and effort comes through. Its so special. We had a great crew!

bare: what types of dance have you studied? would you like to explore it in a particular role or on stage?
ML: I was a professional rhythmic gymnast and started back in the USSR when I was 3. Part of that training was rigorous ballet, and that was in my life for about 13 years. I love dance, and have always taken classes, in all formats. But, in early adulthood, I found 5rhythms, and it opened up a whole new world to my movement practice. It provided a space to let go of any specific form and forced me to really go inward and express what’s inside. Honestly, I can do all kinds of dance, contemporary, tango, hip hop, etc. But I’ve never excelled in any one of them. I don’t believe I’ve ever been “technically” great. But through life, people have always commented on my dancing, and I think that’s mainly because my love and passion for it come through when I move. That’s probably partly why I’ve never even attempted to do it professionally. It’s almost too sacred for me.. This way its mine. But, I would love to do more acting work that involves dance. I’ve always wanted to play Isadora Duncan, for example.

bare: can you share some women you admire — the ones you'd say you have a girl crush on?
ML: Women I admire…. So many! Hilma Af klint, Francis Mcdormand, Eleanor Duse, Frida Kahlo, Isadora Duncan, Nina Simone, Giulietta Masina, Jane Goodall, Mckenzie Scott, Mary Oliver, my mom, anyone being courageous right now, trying to make a positive influence in this world. In this moment, crushing on Chloe Zhao who, aside from being a tremendous director, does dream work, and is training to be a death doula. Both things I personally practice and love.
