Meg Donnelly

Gorgeous musician/actor Meg Donnelly stars as Mary Campbell in The Winchesters the prequel to the long running CW fantastical hit Supernatural alongside Drake Roger who plays John Winchester. The highly anticipated mid season premiere of The Winchesters is Tuesday January 24th 9:00 pm ET. Meg has been filming in NOLA but during the show’s hiatus spent some time in her hometown of NYC. We had the pleasure of hanging with her and capturing her cool personal style wearing vintage she hand picked plus a few pieces from her wardrobe. She chats about her love of her character Mary, stuffed animals, sushi, skincare, people watching and her first love…music. So scroll on down and get to know this bare beauty better.

The Bare Magazine: What top 3 qualities do you love about your Winchesters character Mary?

Meg Donnelly: I love that Mary is a no-nonsense badass. I live vicariously through her, that’s for sure. She’s strong-willed, not afraid to speak her mind and is full of heart. Mary always puts the people she loves first and would do anything to protect them. I really admire that.

Bare: What do you think makes this show such a hit?

MD: It is an extension of the world of ‘Supernatural’.  And ‘Supernatural’ created something so special, where the audience escapes to a fantastical world with monsters and demons; but the human traumas are so deeply authentic. ‘The Winchesters’ pulls in all these elements and it very easy to connect to the story and characters.

Bare: How was your recent trip to NYC? What are some of your favorite parts of your hometown?

MD: My recent trip home was so much fun. It’s always a breath of fresh air. The energy back east is just indescribable.  Every time I am back, when I’m not working, I try to see as many family members and friends as I can. I spend most of my time downtown, mainly in the Village and SOHO. However, this past trip, I did travel into New Jersey and see a lot of my family.  It was truly incredible!   I need to go back home more often, and hopefully, move back some day.

Bare: For our shoot did you enjoy expressing your personal style shopping vintage? How has your style evolved?

MD: The experience was probably the most fun I’ve ever had on a shoot.  Being able to go into a thrift store, pick out all the pieces that spoke to me and expressed my personality.  It was so refreshing. I felt so comfortable!

Bare: We will give you a few topics respond with whatever pops in your head....

        •       Stuffed animals
I cannot live without them. My collection grows every single day, & if I see one in a store, I’ll buy it immediately. My goal is to get every single animal (I may need a bigger bedroom). LOL

        •       90's grunge
I love this era so much!!! Not only do I connect to this music; but it makes me nostalgic for my youth… even though i was born in 2000. I went through a crazy phase when I was 13 when all I listened to was 90’s grunge & hip hop. I love Staind, Incubus, Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots, Radiohead just to name a few… too many to list.

        •       New Orleans

It’s been an honor living here for work. what a beautiful, complex city. Always something to do, something delicious to eat & a festival happening! The live music here is to die for; the musicians are incredibly talented.  And finally, people of New Orleans are so warm and welcoming!

Bare: While you are filming what do you like to do on your off time?

MD: I love to do nothing. It’s so wonderful to have down time after working long hours on set.  I love to open the windows, blast music, & journal (sometimes all at the same time). I am also obsessed with going to cafes to people watch.

Bare: Would you say you love making music as much as acting?

MD: 100%. Music is my first love! I truly believe music connects us all. I’m really passionate about releasing new music soon.
