The Bare Magazine: what would you say to someone who is NOT tuning into Motorheads ... what are they are missing out on?
Melissa Collazo: Nostalgia. The show has so much heart. It’s about persevering despite your circumstances.
Bare: you worked alongside a super talented cast. can you share how being a part of the show helped you grow both personally and professionally?
MC: Every single actor on Motorheads is so talented. I felt really intimidated when I first signed on because I was familiar with a lot of the casts previous work. Professionally I tried to make myself as much of a sponge as possible. Personally, I feel like I gained a family. I know that’s such a cliche thing to say, but there’s jobs that truly feel like jobs. With Motorheads it was exciting to come to set every day and genuinely feel like I am around people who are not just gifted at what they do, but people that make you want to be the best version of yourself.
Bare: would you like to step back into Caitlyn's work boots again? what did you love about her?
MC: I’d love nothing more. I hope I get the privilege of playing her again! I learned a lot from her. She’s incredibly passionate about whatever she sets her mind to. For her it’s cars. That’s not something I particularly share with her in real life, but her passion for it is what really resonates with me. She doesn’t let anyone’s opinions about things sway her own & I think it’s a very mature thing for someone who’s her age. From an acting perspective I love how layered she is. Every time I thought she was going to zig, she would zag.
Bare: speaking of boots you brought the coolest pair to our shoot. did you enjoy styling yourself up at Batsheva's? can you describe your personal style?
MC: I loved playing around with all Batsheva’s pieces! I adore fashion so much. Aside from acting I would say it’s my biggest interest. I love vintage shopping. It feels like treasure hunting. I have a small shoe size, so I manage to get really lucky with really cool vintage shoes quite often.
I think my personal style is on the more feminine side, but I more-so gravitate towards cool pieces and mish-mash things together until I feel like I’m wearing something cool and fun. Right now, I’m really into 90s fashion. Not so much the grunge/punky side of the 90s but more like 90s Miu Miu, Prada, Betsey Johnson, Calvin Klein. Just like every other girl my ultimate style icon is Carrie Bradshaw.
Bare: what's your style advice to other ladies that are very petite like you?
MC: Have a good relationship with your tailor! Vintage shopping is also your best friend. I find it easier to find smaller pieces in secondhand stores. I spend way too much time scrolling through Ebay until I notice I’m on something like page 36 and make myself stop. But if you make it past page 10 that’s where you start finding all the gems.
Bare: you have incredible skin! can you please share the tip about hyaluronic acid application? and any other tips that keep you glowing!
MC: While I was getting my makeup done for the shoot we started talking about Hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid binds to water so it needs a hydrating base to grab onto, otherwise it’s going to pull the hydration out from your skin.
In terms of skincare, I am a firm believer that less is more. My routine is simple: Hydrating toner, hydrating serum, moisturizer. In the daytime I’ll put SPF on top of that. 2-3 times a week I use a gentle exfoliator. Nothing more. My skin is sensitive, so I try not to do anything to irritate it. A lot of it comes down to being consistent with your routine & eating well.
Bare: you have the most tone torso! what's your usual diet/fitness routine?
MC: I try to eat healthy as much as I can & I walk a LOT. Living in New York makes that easy. I try to get over 10k steps a day.
Bare: describe a perfect day off in Brooklyn....some of your favorite places and things to do.
MC: Meeting up with my friends, getting a bottle of wine, & sunbathing at a park. It’s so beautiful and spacious there.
Bare: please share your top 6 Bare essentials.
