the bare magazine: what is most exciting to you about the show? what are you hoping audiences will be drawn to about it?
Rachel Keller: The Kings create such interesting, quirky, clever worlds! It’s so exciting there’s a new legal drama centered on Silicon Valley and tech and AI. I hope audiences are entertained, I hope they have a good time, I hope they connect with our characters. I hope they learn, too, about tech and how these giant corporations continue to skirt responsibility for their products. They’re in for a ride.
bare: how has stepping into your character been a challenge and interesting?
RK: I always wanted to play a lawyer on television, so chic. Olivia is also full of contradictions, too, so playing her feels dynamic — there are no rules. She’s awkward and naive and whip smart and talented. I love my costumes, too. A skirt suit Monday through Friday — sign me up!
bare: describe your usual shoot day routine?
RK: Depends on how early we start, sometimes wicked early. And we have ambitious days, full days. Our crew is so fab, we all get along really well. I love my hair and makeup team so it all feels really cozy and seamless. We film long days, mostly on stages that have become our little (big) home, so there is a routine I dig about the consistency of it. It’s usually getting home, rinsing and repeating.
bare: you recently got a place in brooklyn. what are some things you're excited to explore? does the idea of being bi-coastal appeal to you?
RK: Never been a New Yorker so this is a big new chapter for me. I’m stoked for the parks here and restaurants and dancing and museums, the New York life! Bi-coastal is great, too, to swing back and forth. I wonder if I’ll pop to LA in January? February? I hear it gets real sloshy cold in New York then.
bare: you put together some great outfits on our shoot. can describe your personal style and any brands or shopping destinations you love?
RK: I love soft clothing and love being able to move freely. I want to be able to sit on the floor and stretch and roll around so that becomes a North Star when shopping and dressing, for sure. I like well made basics. I love uber soft sweaters and loosey-goosey pants with structure at the top. I’m loving some Leset tees at the moment. I’m probably a less-is-more gal but I need some sparkle or velvet or shiny thing for grounding.
bare: please list your top 5 bare essentials (anything/anyone you couldn't imagine your life without).
RK:
Cannot live without ….
my sister
green tea (thank you to my years of living in Japan)
cozy sweaters
books (broad, I know, I’m sorry)
and Survivor (it’s daily watch at the moment).
