Courtney Reed currently stars as Satine in Moulin Rouge! The Musical bringing her spectacular voice and sparkling stage presence to Broadway alongside Riverdale heartthrob Casey Cott. If you're in the mood for a musical romantic escape head over to the Al Hirschfeld theatre to check the exquisite chemistry and talent these two and the entire cast possess. We had the pleasure of sneaking backstage where Courtney transforms into Satine with all her amazing costumes, wigs, jewelry, red lips and those lush lashes! So take a seat and scroll on down to get the scoop her usual show day routine, Satine makeup must-haves, recharge/self care/skincare go-to’s and her everyday beauty bare essentials.

The Bare Magazine: you've been a part of Moulin Rouge for quite sometime ....on tour and now on broadway. do you still get an adrenaline rush when you hit the stage? does it continue to inspire/evolve?

Courtney Reed: Oh yes! The thrill never goes away! The audience is different every show and that really keeps you on your toes! It’s so fun to discover new beats and moments with this company!

Bare: Casey Cott came to visit you before the show while we were backstage with you. your chemistry is amazing on and off stage! can you share a bit about your connection and collaboration?

CR: Casey is the BEST! I truly believe your offstage chemistry translates to your on-stage chemistry. I am so lucky that he is so willing and open to building that! My fiancé and I just had dinner over at Casey and Nichola's (his wife) place and had a blast! We all have grown close in such a short amount of time! We don't always get so lucky in this business to have a co-star that you genuinely love spending the entire show with!

Bare: your voice is incredible and musical theatre seems such a fit. are there other genres that interest you for stage? does theatre excite you more than tv/film work?

CR: There is nothing like live theatre. TV/film is fun too! However, the energy of the stage is unmatched!

A pre-show chat with Casey Cott

Bare: we want some Satine beauty scoop! who designed the hair, makeup and costumes? was there a certain goal throughout to highlight your character? what are some of your favorite looks?

CR: The hair was designed by David Brian Brown. The costumes were designed by Catherine Zuber. This creative team is truly a DREAM team. It shows on stage as well. All of the elements came together to make this show a 10-time Tony Award-winning musical! It's pretty obvious when you see it. My favorite look is the bow dress. Hahaha I wear it for point two seconds but it's magnificent!

Bare: as you transformed into Satine the eyelashes were an impressive part and of course the red lip! can you share some of those key products, and what do you use to set them?

CR: Yes! I love a classic Ardell lash! They tend to stay durable enough to use for WEEKS if you take care of them and clean them. The lip is by Makeup Forever and really has to STAY on the lip during all of the kissing scenes ahahaha!

Bare: what is your makeup removal process and routine after the show?

CR: I usually use a waterproof eye makeup remover on a reusable pad and then wash my face with a scent free face wash.

Bare: can you share your typical routine on a show day? what time do you get up, what's your diet consist of? do you drink coffee? do you have an work out routine?

CR: I try and get 8 hours of sleep or more per night. I usually get to bed around 2am and wake up at 10am. I love cleaning the house first thing in the morning and then I usually chill and have an iced cold brew coffee (black), with my fiancé because we usually fast in the morning. When our 16 hour fast is up we usually do eggs over easy, an arugula side salad and either toast or avocado. I typically won’t eat anything else before the show! I usually eat a full meal after the show but I’m trying to break that habit. I also try and get to the gym or a soul cycle class 3-5 times a week.

Bare: and on your one off day... do you have a method to unwind and recharge - disconnect? any self-care indulgences?

CR: Days off usually consist of one day of getting everything done and one day of relaxation and date night with the fiancé! We love a sensible picnic in the park, rooftop cocktails and a yummy dinner and a show or movie!

Bare: what are your top 6 personal beauty bare essentials? (can be fragrance, skincare, haircare, supplements, body care, nails, facial, makeup)

CR: This is hard!

1. I have been trying to get my gut-health right for the past year or so. So, I take a lot of supplements to try and get me back on track. Probiotics, vit D, Omega 3 and vit C to stay healthy!

2. I love to moisturize! Lots in the morning and at night!

3. I wear a tinted moisturizer with zinc for sunscreen on my face every day!

4. I LOVE taking baths! I may throw in a few drops of lavender essentials oils every now and then. Lavender is my FAV!

5. I carry around a rosebud salve for my dry hands and lips. I have a lavender one that is iconic.

6. I’m very much into gloss right now. I love finding moisturizing lip gloss that is highly pigmented for a bold glossy lip!
