Isabelle and Elina Fuhrman - In Their Own Style

A note from our editor in chief Tina Turnbow:

When I think of beautiful Hollywood mother-daughter duos, I think of Isabelle and Elina Fuhrman. I met them when Isabelle was 14, promoting “The Hunger Games.” I had the privilege of working with Isabelle doing her makeup and snapping photos, while watching her grow from a talented teen actor into a striking leading lady, intensely dedicated to her craft and yet supremely grounded in an industry notorious for its destabilizing effects. Always by her side? Elina. She’s her closest friend and advisor, and every time we are getting ready for an event together, the space fills with love, laughter, and endless stories. I caught up with the pair at the London Hotel, where Isabelle was prepping for the Independent Spirit Awards in March 2022. Her brave portrayal of an athlete competing against her own expectations in the Black Swan-Whiplash-like drama, “The Novice,” earned her a Leading Actress nomination, so glamour was definitely on the agenda in their own style.

Isabelle on Elina: “What I love about our relationship is that I've gotten to watch my mom grow just as she watched me grow up. It's amazing to know your parent as not just a parent, but as a friend, a human being and a strong woman. Every day I feel so lucky that I can tell my mom anything, she can do the same with me, and we can laugh about our flaws and make each other better. We're definitely buddies.”

This mother and daughter moment captured the beautiful besties perfectly.

Elina on Isabelle: “We never run out of things to talk about. Isabelle is wise beyond her years, but she’s also funny and brave, and smart, and strong, and kind, and has the biggest heart.”

Elina on Isabelle: ”It’s beautiful to see your child be the person you look up to. Isabelle is such an inspiration for me, she inspires me on a daily basis.”

Elina on Isabelle: “I’ve always been proud of Isabelle, and as much as I love when people in the industry tell me how rare her talent is, my heart melts when they tell me how kind Isabelle is, how her work ethic and enthusiasm is contagious on every set she works, and how she touches everyone with her light energy.”

Isabelle on Elina: "On a film recently, my stunt double asked my mom how she and I have such a great relationship — and I looked at her, because I also wondered how this had happened. Her answer? You just have to want it."

A heavenly moment of reflection.
