the bare magazine: your character Dr Theodore TJ Coleman in DOC has developed quite a following. what do you feel are his most charming and compelling qualities?

Patrick Walker: TJ’s charm comes from the fact that he’s fundamentally trustworthy. People feel safe with him and they know he’ll go above and beyond to help. He leads with empathy, loyalty, and a genuine care for the people he loves and serves. That grounded goodness is what makes him compelling to audiences.

bare: what key ingredients make this show so successful?

PW: I think the show’s success comes from following a group of characters who are all flawed, but driven by good intentions. Even the ones audiences label as villains have hearts that are ultimately aligned with growth both for themselves and for the hospital.

And at the center of it all is Molly Parker, whose incredible warmth comes through on screen. She brings so much humanity to Amy, and because we experience most of the story through her eyes, that really anchors the entire show.

bare: were you always a medical drama follower? is it a genre you felt drawn to and why?

PW: No, I actually wasn’t , and that honestly scared me at first. I wasn’t sure if audiences would believe me as a doctor. But once I took the time to consult with real medical professionals and really dive into the research, it clicked, and everything started to fall into place.

bare: describe a day off for you? what are your favorite ways to chill and decompress?

PW: A typical day off for me is usually finding somewhere to work out in the morning and a Movie Theater! I LIVE at the local cinema! If I am not prepping work for the following episode, you can usually find me there.

bare: on our shoot you brought some cool pieces from your wardrobe! describe your style and some designers or shopping destinations you love.

PW: You know, my style feels like it’s always evolving. I went through a phase where it was always black and now I feel like I always need a pop of color somewhere in my outfit. Whether it is a leopard printed trench like our photo shoot or purple shoes or a bright bandanna, I’m always trying to find ways to have one part of my outfit be eye catching.

bare: when it comes to your diet and fitness routine, what are your top goals to hit?

PW: My honest goal is I just want to look good in every piece of clothing I put on. I’m not aiming to be too big nor am I aiming to be too small. I’m just trying to find the perfect spot in between where I feel good when I walk out of my house.

bare: please share your top 6 Bare essentials.

PW: My top six Bare essentials would have to be:

  • God

  • staying connected with my family

  • good fooood

  • my creativity

  • my closest friends

  • and movies — I can’t live without them.
