the bare magazine: is working on the set of St. Denis Medical a blast? everyone seems to have a great sense of humor!
Kahyun Kim: It's a blast! Everyone is so funny on the show, and we have such a great crew. Truly, not one boring day!
bare: why do you think the show has become such a hit...what makes it so special?
KK: I honestly think the writing is spectacular. Every table read, we are all amazed on how funny the script is. Also, we are so lucky to have really good, kind people on set. I think that makes us play freely, and naturally produce such great chemistry as an ensemble cast.
bare: what has been the most challenging about this show as an actor...and also inspiring?
KK: Honestly, not breaking and keeping a straight face is really hard. I pride myself on always being in the moment, but damn, I have never broken character so much in a scene in my life! Hard to be around such funny actors but I learn a lot and I'm so inspired by the people I work with.
bare: you have a theatre background, do you crave getting back on stage? what would a dream project be?
KK: Stage is my first love, so I always have an itch to get back on stage. I try to fit in a theatre project at least once a year, if I can. My current dream project is a play I workshopped at Ojai Playwrights Conference a couple of years ago called “untitled f*ck m*ss s**gon play,” a play by Kimber Lee. It's such a great play and I'm actively manifesting to be a part of the production when it comes to life!
bare: so glad we caught up with you in NYC! what were some highlights from the trip? (including our shoot, of course!)
KK: Doing press with my cast is always fun. We went on a lot of good food outings together, too — shout-out to my favorite kbbq spot in NYC called HYUN. My cast said it might have been the best meal they've ever had in their life and I'm proud to be the person who made that experience happen!
My boyfriend and I also did a dumpling crawl in Chinatown and that was pretty epic. We also visited my best friend's house in upstate New York for the first time and it was such a blast.
bare: you have such naturally radiant and gorgeous skin. please share some of your Korean skincare tips and products.
KK: Not to sound like an asshole, but some of it is just genetics. THANK YOU MOM! But I always moisturize, put sunscreen on whether it shines or rains, and laser treatments. Botox too. I don't do anything crazy invasive, but I definitely do all the hot procedures when I visit my parents in Korea.
