the bare magazine: are there any favorite moments you can share both personally and professionally, whilst filming Landman?

Paulina Chávez: Some of my favorite moments are truly being able to connect with the cast and crew. We’ve all built an amazing bond in the face of creating something we’re all passionate about. Some of my favorite moments while filming… I wouldn’t wanna spoil anything, but there’s so much coming up! Being able to share the screen with Sam Elliott is a dream. He’s absolutely incredible.

bare: why do you feel the show has had such success? why should people tune in?!

PC: I believe it has had so much success (which is still incredibly surreal, by the way) because of how much heart there is in this show. And there’s a little something for everyone. It’s not just about the oil industry; it’s about family and the human connections you make along the way. Also being from Texas, it’s such a privilege being able to tell a West Texas story and also film in Texas.

bare: you live in San Antonio - how do you enjoy it? did you enjoy your stay in NYC? is it a fun departure from home? can you see yourself moving someday and where?

PC: San Antonio is home and will always be. The people here are incredible. And yes, I absolutely adore NYC! It’s always a great time when I visit. And as far as moving goes, I do see myself living in an array of places, from Seattle to London, somewhere in Mexico or anywhere work takes me.

bare: do you try to find thrifted gems anywhere you go?

PC: Not as much as I would like to! When I was living in LA, there were some cool shops that were a must. I try to thrift items when possible.

bare: your crochet work is fantastic! when did you start? is it something you do on set during off times? what are your favorite items to make?

PC: I learned to crochet when I was very young. It was something that you had to learn - it didn't matter if you were good or bad at it. I used to hate it when I was younger, but now I find it very therapeutic and something fun to do on my off time. I do an array of little projects like bucket hats, tops, and baby blankets.

bare: you have incredible skin! what is your regime and go-to products?

PC: My skincare regime is constantly changing, but my go-to products are always snail mucin, salicylic acid, and rice cream.

bare: when looking into the future, what kind of work or genre of film would you like to be involved with? any dream projects or people you'd love to work with?

PC: The list is endless on dream projects and people I want to work with. Some of my goals in the near future are to produce and direct projects. The way has been paved by so many wonderful Latinos; they’ve opened the door for us, now it’s our job to knock the doors down.
