Olivia Himes - girls w curls

Olive Himes is a beautiful burgeoning musician (she just released Mothers, Fathers, The Works) filmmaker, and lucky us an occasional BTS capturer, editor, digital cover maker for Bare ( thanks to the referral by her great friend Sophia Lillis!) but for this moment she has a supremely stunning mane of curls we wanted to know all about and capture in all its glory. So scroll on down and catch Olivia’s words on said luscious mane and more from this young creative on the move.

I didn’t know I had properly curly hair for most of my life. When I was little I had little ringlets but growing up I would always brush them out. I had my hair short for a long time but a few years ago I decided to keep it long. My sisters have unruly curls themselves so I was no stranger to the “curly girl method”. I gave it a try and after a long shower and some furious scrunching, I found I had curls.
my favorite cut at the moment is “poofy and big” if that counts as a style. I don’t go to any particular hair stylist, I mostly hop around from place to place or take the scissors into my own hands. Some may disagree but cutting your own hair when it’s curly provides a much lower risk. Curls can hide mistakes.
I don’t have a diffuser which I understand is a crime! That’s the next step in my semi-newfound curly hair journey.
In terms of curly-haired inspirations, mostly my mind goes to characters in Film and TV. Elaine from Seinfeld, Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and The City, Cher in Moonstruck- something about an NYC curly girl.
Generally, western culture has deemed certain kinds of curly hair as unprofessional or even unclean. Which is not just saddening but also completely nonsensical. Every kind of curl, every texture, should be embraced.

Olivia’s Hair Bare Essentials plus an Oat Milk Latte!

- My wired iPhone earbuds.

- Hair Claw Clip, because sometimes the curls need a break.

- Oat Milk Latte, dairy is out, guys. It's over.

- Ogee-tinted sculpted lip oil, I know Ogee and the Bare Mag are great friends so I swear this is not clever marketing- it's a genuine essential!

- My guitar, it's a classical one that used to be my grandmother's.
